5 ESG Predictions for 2025
While environmental concerns may feel as distant as the Greek calendar, ESG is stepping into a whole new era. Action is the buzzword for 2025. Here’s what Reuters predicts:
The end of the ESG term?
Less talk, more action. Companies will need to trade lofty rhetoric for tangible efforts, embedding ESG into everyday operations to manage risks and opportunities.
The return of governance.
With rising political and climate uncertainties, strong corporate governance will be a non-negotiable lever for success in 2025.
ESG as a core strategy.
The CSRD will push ESG to infiltrate every level of business strategy—finance, procurement, legal, sales, marketing, and even AI-driven tech.
Anti-ESG in the United States.
Under the new Trump administration, diversity and renewable energy initiatives are expected to take a hit, amplifying global polarization in ESG approaches.
A surge in greenwashing lawsuits.
With stricter CSRD reporting, companies will need to back up their claims or face legal action, especially around supply chain practices and rushed "carbon neutrality" claims.
In short, ESG is ditching the window-dressing and getting down to business. And honestly, it’s about time!

Boom! New York City has rolled out its first-ever congestion charge , slapping drivers with a $9 fee to enter Manhattan during rush hour. The goal? To reduce traffic, improve air quality, and cut down on road fatalities—all while raking in $15 billion to upgrade the city’s public transit system. A bold move for the Big Apple, but will New Yorkers embrace it or find creative ways around it? Either way, it’s a fascinating test case for cities worldwide.

Phony Quote of the Day 🗑️
|
“It is currently impossible to quantify man's share of responsibility for global warming”
|
A touch of climatoskepticism to kick off the year? That’s the premise of a piece in French newspaper Nice Matin, as highlighted
by geographer Magali Reghezza. The centerpiece? Geomorphologist Stephen Giner claims we can’t measure humanity’s contribution to global warming.
(Spoiler alert: we absolutely can.)
So, how about a new year’s resolution? Let’s leave outdated denialism where it belongs—buried in last century’s archives.

Wildfire smoke is becoming so prevalent in our daily life, that even famous entertainers such as singers like Shawn Mendes are starting to incorporate the negative effects that these natural disasters have on our lives into their music and artwork – and while releasing a new song and offering to donate to the red cross is a good way to raise awareness, it's important to remember how effective it would be to work towards preventing wildfire smoke from occurring in the first place.
